The Ruakaka Surf Lifesaving Club was formed in 1960 when it became clear that the growing popularity of the beach combined with the dangerous conditions made the establishment of a surf club a necessity.
Work on a clubhouse was started almost immediately and it wasn’t long before the first basic clubhouse stood on the same site that the present clubhouse occupies today.
Between 1960 and 1966 the club grew in strength, with members competing in the then popular R&R (Rescue and Resuscitation) events, board and ski races, and the boat races in their newly acquired surf boat.
Today the club continues to operate with state-of-the-art equipment, and regularly conducts training with external agencies to offer beach-goers the safest environment it can.
For detailed information on our club, the last 50 years are summed up in our jubilee booklet. A great deal of effort was put into it, to offer an accurate account of Ruakaka SLSC over the years. Jubilee Booklet available here.
